Published on May 21st, 2009.
If you are one of those individuals or bloggers who are experiencing a problem on how to filter spam out of your blog then this article could be a great help for you.
Here’s why…
I am sharing on this post two ways on how you can filter spam out of your blog. These might not be the best spam filter tools but, at least to me, these are effective as your web spam filters.
So, what are these spam filter tools I am talking about?
I am recommending the use of reCaptcha and Akismet-these are plug-ins you can add in your wordpress blogs for spam filtering.
While these two are both spam filters, Akismet works at the back-end while the reCaptcha on user interface.
These are the steps you need to follow to be able to use these spam filter services…
For Akismet wordpress plug-in:
It takes just easy steps to install Akismet plug-in to your wordpress blog. Just follow below:
1. Download the zip file for Akismet (check first your blog plug-ins, usually the Akismet is there by default and only needs to be activated so no need to download).
2. Upload the plug-in to your blog. Have it activated.
3. Provide your WordPress API key. And that’s it!
For reCaptcha WordPress plug-in:
The reCAPTCHA WordPress plugin uses a CAPTCHA to prevent comment spam and also uses MailHide to prevent email spam. Here is how to add reCAPTCHA to your WordPress blog:
1. Download the zip file for the reCAPTCHA WordPress CAPTCHA plugin.
2. Unzip the recaptcha folder into your WordPress wp-content/plugins directory.
3. Activate the plugin on the Options | Plugins Management page of your WordPress admin site. A web form will prompt you to enter a public and private API key. You can sign-up for the keys at the ReCAPTCHA site using the link provided, and then enter them in the text fields to activate the plugin.
4. That’s it! Your reCAPTCHA widget should now appear on the comments page.

So, there you go. Above are two effective ways on how you can filter spam comments out of your blog. It makes sense to use it now!
