How I Update My Website Effectively

Posted under Web Designs, web site maintenance by admin on Wednesday 24 February 2010 at 10:49 am

Perhaps every site owner understands how important website updating is but not all can really do it. Many need to focus on their core business – they don’t have enough time to do updating as this can be a laborious and time-consuming task for them. However with simple tips to follow, updating a website can be made easier.

I am sharing you some ideas on how I update my website that I have proven effective not just to keep my clients and readers but for SEO as well. Every time I update my website I work primarily on the following areas:

Content

Contents are the building blocks of websites. It should always be updated not just for SEO purposes but, more than that, to keep its relevance to readers. The Internet is a fast-paced arena of information. Your content might be relevant today but as what many people say, tomorrow is another day- your content, when not updated, could be just a garbage later on. Make your website content current- text, images, videos, etc.

Links

Links (inbound or outbound) should also be updated. I keep on checking my website back links as often as I can. Broken links are a BIG NO NO. Studies show that website visitors are easily get irritated when directed to 404 (error) or ‘page cannot be found’. In other words, broken links can demerit your website’s reputation not just in the eyes of search engines but in the eyes of website visitors as well. Why is that your website can possibly have broken links? One possible reason is that your website is linked to certain related websites that are previously active but become inactive for reasons like – hosting renewal issue.

Meta tags, descriptions

There are some who says working on metas are not practical today because it’s not part of search engines’ requirement anymore. But I disagree to this claim. Metas make your website more easy to crawl by search engine spiders. Most of my promoted websites are indexed with the help of meta keywords and meta descriptions. So keep your metas updated, used competitive keywords in your meta keywords, and in meta descriptions.

Graphics and navigation

Your website graphics can certainly enhance your website physical appearance – and yes, it can contribute a lot as ‘first impression lasts’ adage is also applicable to website promotion. Make your website images timely.

By just doing updates on the areas above, I have maintained my website’s good performance in terms of traffic and conversions. How about yours?

Features Cheap Website Templates Must Have

Posted under Outsourcing,SEO & SEM by admin on Wednesday 10 February 2010 at 2:03 pm

There is nothing wrong in choosing a cheap website template provided most (if not all) the necessary features are there in it. It is imperative that you know these features or else you will end up having a crap website – it can cost you profits.

Below are some important features that you need to take into consideration prior to purchasing a website template:

Browser Compatibility

Pick a template that is compatible to all browsers. In most cases, and when you are not vigilant, you can get a website that runs smoothly on Firefox but broken when it is run on IE. You need to be careful on this or else you will put your money into waste. Ask your provider if the template is browser-friendly and if possible, perform a test prior to purchasing.

Easy Navigation

Easy navigation is essential as this will make your website become more user-friendly – after all, you are launching a website for users. Menu or pages must be, at least, above the fold and that just means it must be visible to users even without scrolling down the page.

Search Engine Friendly

Aside from being user friendly, you must choose a template that is search engine friendly. In other words, your website must easily get indexed on major search engines (Google, yahoo, etc.) when published. We are aware that about 60-80% of Internet users are searching websites via these search engines. The greater your website presence the better opportunity for traffic and the more possible conversion.

The Designs

Yes, SEO plays an important role but we have to admit that first impression lasts. Therefore aside from being search engine friendly, your template must also be professionally designed. Appropriate colors, font, appropriate graphics, banners, and call-to-actions are important.

Plug-in friendly

Template may look complete at times but later it certainly needs an upgrade. Perhaps you wish to integrate some useful plug-ins and application. Your website template must be easy to utilize when performing plug-in integrations.

Now, if you think that the website template you are about to buy ( because it is cheap) does not conform to these standards, better think again before purchasing. Buy cheap website templates with features stated. Else, go for premium as these are (most of the time) better in terms of designs and functionality.

Why Nano Technology and Eco Friendly Means NOKIA

Posted under Reviews by gladys.ross on Tuesday 9 February 2010 at 10:09 am

In the present day, the number of companies that are geared to innovate and improve on worldwide communication can fill several pages of paper. Just the other day prototypes of mobile phones of the future were featured on my favorite news page, there were 2 intriguing entries from Finland based mobile manufacturer.

From my part of the globe, Nokia and mobile phones in general are a part of everyday life. Unlike the other mobile phone makers though, only Nokia evolves mobiles year in and year out- launching styles and version changes that make your eyes pop out.

For the Future Phones: The 17 Coolest Concept Cell Phones article Nokia has entries that not only dwell on design but in the use of technology and alternative energy source (bye, bye to batteries!) they could run on.

Just in case the last 139 words aren’t that obvious, the 2 concept phones of Nokia are the ones that impressed me the most.

The Morph phone, the image makes you think that the Morph comes in 3 separate versions. Alas a visit to the Nokia website proved my imagination short and stifled. Below are the amazing features of the concept mobile phones.

The Morph phone is among the phones which uses nano technology, which enables the mobile to shift appearances as the need arises. The Morph mobile can be stretched out in front of you like a tablet, you can also fold it (yes FOLD) it to a desirable vertical shaped gadget or you could just wear the ear piece as you snap the Morph nano unit on your wrist like a cuff. The features I liked the most are the Self-cleaning ability to repel the tiniest spec of dust. When I read through the specifications my jaw drops in anticipation of how owning one could be.

Equally intriguing is the Nokia mobile phone that works using carbonated drinks, specifically Coca-Cola or Pepsi as the its power source. Named as an EcoFriendly mobile handset this uses the enzymes to generate electricity from carbohydrates. The Eco Friendly mobile handset has a longer running time And would last 4 times better than re-charging Lithium batteries. To top it off, Nokia has made this mobile one of the biodegradable.

Despite the haters and the ones who dwell on the price too much, Nokia has turned out great mobile phones for most people all over the world.

Designing Websites from Scratch – Development Phases

Posted under SEO & SEM by admin on Tuesday 2 February 2010 at 9:20 am

Just like any other project development, website building needs to follow a step-by-step procedure in order to succeed. Website development phases serve as your guide so that your project will not end-up a crap.

Basically, website development process follow this the following phases:

Planning and Decision Making

The planning stage is important as this is the time you set your website decision and goal, analyze the feasibility, gather the resources needed, and most of all build the framework or skeleton of your target project. You will also be deciding for your domain and register for a website hosting service.

Graphic Design

After the planning stage you can start working for graphic design based on the approved draft or project skeleton. This is the time you use resources like adobe and other graphic design applications or editor. Your graphic designer is needed in this phase.

Website Development/Coding

When graphic designing is done, it is time to start working on coding. Your web developer takes a big responsibility during this stage. This is the phase where slicing of pages is done and it includes coding not just the front-end (the user interface) but the back-end functions of the design also. It is important that the person you assign to website development or coding is knowledgeable in different programming languages and databases.

Testing

Testing is next and this is also important because it is not a wise practice to just publish your website without even trying and checking if it functions the way it is planned . Testing and tracing possible errors in all the pages is very important. You need to check if the links, input form, menu, and plug-ins are functioning well – based on the goal you have set.

Website Launching

When bugs are fixed, your website is then ready for launching. Please note, by the way, it is a useful strategy that you let website users in your niche know about the launching of your website. That can be a very good start – attracting individuals at the very start. You can do that by posting announcement, upcoming events on your social networking account like Facebook or Twitter.

Updates and Maintenance

Lastly, when you have successfully published your website, your next task- and it is an ongoing task – is to prepare your self in doing maintenance -which might be needed daily- as well as for future updates.
